I became a medical director in 2020 after owning my own medical spa. As a physician in the industry I was approached often to supervise but felt intimidated and scared. Once I started I realized there are safe, and legal best practices to implement to protect patients and my license. It all starts with choosing trustworthy nurses and experienced healthcare attorneys to partner with. Medical directing provides satisfaction in teaching, supervising, and making the industry safer!
Who can be a medical director
in California?
As of now, only MDs can be medical directors of aesthetic practices. In certain cases DNPs with advanced practice in asethetics can also, please check with your nursing board to confirm. MDs must have clinical experience in every service provided by the spa they oversee.
